What if I tell you that what we celebrate in leadership today often becomes what we suffer from tomorrow.
This is why I think that moving from grass root to governance has become an urgent strategic blue print to fix Nigeria, our great country
What I want to say is that there is no nation that is transformed by slogans, election cycles, or good intentions alone. This is to say that sustainable progress is often built through deliberate strategy, accountable leadership, and active citizen participation. If Nigeria is to realize its full potential, governance must no longer be designed from the top down. It must rather be built from the grassroots up.
To this end we must note that true national transformation begins when communities become architects of their own development. This is so because every ward understands its unique challenges better than any distant office. That is why every community should identify and document its priorities in education, healthcare, security, infrastructure, agriculture, youth empowerment, enterprise, technology, and local economic development.
These locally developed priorities should move systematically through Local Governments, State Governments, and the National Assembly, forming a data-driven national development agenda rooted in the realities of the people rather than political assumptions.
This when achieved will also form the foundation of meaningful restructuring and fiscal federalism where states and regions should be empowered with greater constitutional and fiscal responsibility, creating stronger incentives to develop agriculture, manufacturing, technology, tourism, and solid minerals instead of depending predominantly on federally distributed oil revenues. The advantage of this approach is far reaching, in that healthy competition among states would stimulate innovation, attract investment, create jobs, and reduce overdependence on Abuja.
Furthermore, history consistently reveals that nations rise when governance becomes local, responsive, transparent, and accountable. A one-size-fits-all development model has repeatedly failed because every community has different realities, opportunities, and priorities.
Our commitment going forward should be guided by intentional strategy, institutional order, protection of citizens' rights, transparency, accountability, and unity beyond politics, ethnicity, or religion. With disciplined execution, measurable milestones, and continuity over the next nine & half years , Nigeria can build a development model that future generations will be proud of.
This is bigger than politics, because it is about legacy, and it is about becoming the generation that moved beyond complaints, designed practical solutions, and delivered measurable change, and I have no doubt that President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu #GCFR has the master plan of that vision in his coffers.
The same route through which ballot boxes move from polling units to collation centres can become the route through which development moves from communities to Local Governments, states, and the nation across the 36 states including the FCT, 774 Local Government Areas and over 8,800 Wards. We all must understand that Nation-building is not rocket science when there is vision, structure, accountability, and collective commitment.
The call is simply to begin community consultations, document local priorities, strengthen accountability from wards to the federal level, advocate for institutional adoption of this bottom-up governance model, and demand measurable progress instead of promises.
Nigeria's future we must note, will not be decided by government alone. It will instead be shaped by informed citizens, responsible institutions, visionary leadership, and a shared commitment to the common good.
