10-DAY SALES CHALLENGE
OPERATION: TAKE BACK YOUR TERRITORY
Theme: From Territory Awareness to Territory Dominance
«WE CAN ACCOMPLISH WHATSOEVER WE RECEIVE, BELIEVE AND ACT UPON.»
This is not another motivational exercise.
This is a 10-day commercial activation designed to put your territory back under your control.
For the next 10 days, don't merely go to work.
GO TAKE MARKET SHARE.
Don't just make calls:
CREATE CONNECTIONS.
Don't just collect orders:
DEVELOP ACCOUNTS.
Don't just visit stores:
BUILD YOUR TERRITORY.
DAY 1 — KNOW YOUR TERRITORY
Mission: MAP IT
You cannot conquer an unknown territory.
Create a complete list of outlets within your assigned territory:
- Provision stores
- Tabletops
- Kiosks
- Mini marts
- Groceries
- Supermarkets
- High-value stores
- Hotels
- Cafés
- Restaurants
- Lounges
- Bars
- Other relevant outlets
Challenge: Identify every outlet you currently know and deliberately search for outlets you have never visited.
Categorize them:
A — High Potential
B — Growth Potential
C — Emerging/Small
Lesson: Your territory universe is bigger than your current customer list.
Don't manage only the customers you know. Discover the customers you don't know.
DAY 2 — KNOW THEIR CAPACITY
Mission: UNDERSTAND THE CUSTOMER
Today, stop looking at customers merely as outlets.
Look at them as businesses.
For each important outlet, determine:
- What do they currently buy?
- How frequently do they buy?
- What quantities do they buy?
- What brands do they stock?
- Who supplies them?
- What products move fastest?
- What are their peak sales periods?
- What prevents them from buying more?
- What additional products could they potentially carry?
Challenge: Have meaningful business conversations with your customers.
Don't start with: “What do you want to buy?”
Start with: “How is business moving for you, and where can we help you grow?”
Lesson: Customer knowledge creates sales intelligence.
DAY 3 — RECRUIT NEW ACCOUNTS
Mission: EXPAND THE FRONTIER
Your territory cannot grow if your customer base does not grow.
Today is NEW ACCOUNT DAY.
Approach businesses you have never sold to before.
Don't be intimidated by:
- Competitor presence
- Existing suppliers
- Customer resistance
- Previous rejection
Challenge: Set a specific new-account acquisition target for the day.
Every new outlet represents a new possibility for: Distribution + Revenue + Visibility + Relationship + Future Growth.
Lesson: A “NO” is not the end of the territory. It is information.
Learn. Adjust. Follow up. Return.
DAY 4 — BREAK THE BOX
Mission: SELL ACCORDING TO CAPACITY
Some retailers cannot afford a full carton.
That does not mean they cannot become customers.
Where commercially appropriate, use smaller quantities to create an entry point.
Move the customer through: Trial → Repeat → Growth → Bigger Order → Wider Assortment.
Challenge: Identify customers who are currently excluded because their purchasing capacity is too small for the conventional order size.
Find a commercially viable way to start them.
Lesson: Don't ask: “How much can I sell this customer today?”
Ask: “How can I develop this customer into a bigger account?”
DAY 5 — WIN THE VISIBILITY WAR
Mission: BE SEEN
A product that is available but invisible is commercially disadvantaged.
Today, inspect your key outlets.
Look at:
- Product placement
- Shelf presence
- Counter visibility
- Promotional materials
- Stock availability
- Competitor visibility
- Out-of-stock situations
- Display opportunities
Challenge: Improve visibility in your priority outlets. Make the product easier to notice, easier to understand, and easier to purchase.
Lesson: Visibility creates opportunity.Your competitors are fighting for attention. So are you.
DAY 6 — BUILD THE RELATIONSHIP
Mission: MAKE EMOTIONAL BANK DEPOSITS
Stop treating customer relationships as transactional.
Call them. Message them. Check on their businesses. Share relevant promotions. Inform them about product opportunities. Remember important details. Listen.Appreciate them. Help solve problems.
Challenge: Reconnect with customers you have not meaningfully engaged recently.
Especially those who have
- Reduced orders
- Stopped buying
- Become inactive
- Switched suppliers
- Complained previously
Lesson: People remember how you make them feel, because trust is not created by one big conversation. It is built through many small deposits.
DAY 7 — BECOME THE COMPLETE SALESMAN
Mission: SELL YOURSELF BEFORE YOUR PRODUCT
Today, audit your personal presentation.
Ask: Do I look professional? Do I speak professionally? Do I understand my products? Do I understand my customer's business? Can I confidently explain value? Can I handle objections? Do I follow up?Can my customer trust my word?
Challenge: Before every customer meeting, know three things:
1. What the customer currently needs.
2. What opportunity exists.
3. What specific solution you can offer.
Lesson: Customers don't need another person who simply says: “Buy this.”
They need someone who can say: “Here is how this can help your business.”
DAY 8 — DEVELOP YOUR ACCOUNTS
Mission: GROW WHAT YOU ALREADY HAVE
New customers are important.
But existing customers may contain significant untapped potential.
Review your current accounts.
Look for: New SKUs. Increased quantity. Increased frequency. Cross-selling. Better visibility. Additional outlets. Seasonal opportunities. Event opportunities
Challenge: Select your top accounts and identify one specific growth opportunity for each.
Don't simply ask for another order.Create a reason for the customer to buy more.
Lesson: Account development is cheaper and smarter than constantly starting from zero.
DAY 9 — ATTACK THE GAP
Mission: FIND THE MONEY YOU ARE CURRENTLY LEAVING BEHIND
Today, conduct a territory gap analysis.
Ask: Where are competitors stronger than us? Which stores are we missing? Which customers have stopped buying? Which products are underrepresented? Which outlets have poor visibility? Which high-potential accounts have not yet been converted? Which customers buy from competitors because we have not followed up?
Challenge: Identify your TOP 10 MISSED OPPORTUNITIES.
Then create a recovery plan for each.
Lesson: Sometimes the next level of revenue is not somewhere far away. It is already sitting inside your territory.
DAY 10 — TAKE COMMAND
Mission: DOMINATE THROUGH DISCIPLINE
Today is not about motivation.
It is about commitment.
Review the previous nine days.
Measure:
- New outlets identified
- New outlets recruited
- Customer visits
- Productive calls
- Orders generated
- Dormant accounts reactivated
- New SKUs introduced
- Visibility opportunities created
- Customer relationships strengthened
- Sales opportunities identified
Then ask yourself: WHAT WILL I DO DIFFERENTLY FROM TOMORROW?
Because the challenge does not end on Day 10.
Day 10 is the beginning of a new operating standard.
THE TERRITORY DOMINATION FORMULA
KNOW IT. MAP IT. SEGMENT IT. VISIT IT. RECRUIT IT. DEVELOP IT. VISUALIZE IT. MEASURE IT. GROW IT. DOMINATE IT
THE 5 QUESTIONS EVERY SALESPERSON MUST ASK DAILY
1. Who is my next customer?
2. What problem am I solving for them?
3. What can this customer buy today?
4. What can this customer become tomorrow?
5. What did I do today to make my territory stronger than it was yesterday?
If you cannot answer these questions, you are not yet fully in command of your territory.
FOR THE RETAILER
If you own a provision store, grocery, minimart or supermarket, remember: Your shelf is territory. Every empty shelf is lost opportunity. Every poorly displayed product is lost visibility.
Every inactive customer is a potential lost sale. Every competitor occupying your best position deserves your attention.
Know your fast movers. Know your slow movers. Know your margins. Know your customers. Know your suppliers. Know your stock levels.
And most importantly: Know what makes customers choose you instead of the store next door.
FOR HOTELS, CAFÉS, RESTAURANTS, LOUNGES & BARS
Your territory is not only your building.
It includes your: Guests + surrounding businesses + events + corporate customers + suppliers + repeat customers + digital audience + local community.
Understand your demand cycles. Know your peak periods. Plan your inventory. Create compelling offers. Protect your service quality. Build relationships with customers. Turn first-time visitors into repeat customers. And turn repeat customers into advocates.
Business development is not only about finding more customers. It is about increasing the value of every customer relationship.
Never despise the small order.
Never underestimate the small retailer.
Never ignore the emerging customer.
Never dismiss today's ₦1 opportunity because you are waiting for tomorrow's ₦1,000 opportunity.
Because: Little drops form an ocean. The objective is not merely to collect drops. The objective is to build a system that continuously creates drops.
Consistent customers. Consistent orders. Consistent visibility. Consistent relationships. Consistent follow-up. Consistent execution.
That is how an ocean is built.
